It is not uncommon for patients to experience anxiety at the prospect of going to the dentist. We understand that dental phobia is a real problem, but it should not keep you from getting the treatment you desire. Fortunately, when you have implants placed with sedation you can enjoy a relaxed, comfortable treatment. Prestige Oral Surgery offers several types of sedation, and we will help you choose the right one for your needs.
Different Types Of Sedation
Nitrous Oxide
You will breathe in this colorless, odorless gas also known as “laughing gas.” The gas will help you feel comfortable and at ease, and many patients even experience a sense of euphoria.
Oral Conscious Sedation
You will be given strong anti-anxiety pills to take at home before your appointment. This medication produces a high level of drowsiness but not a complete sleep. You will remain awake and alert throughout treatment but without the fear you otherwise experience. In fact, you probably will not even remember the implant procedure after you return home.
IV Sedation
This form of sedation induces a twilight sleep. You will be able to answer questions, but you will not be fully aware of what is going on around you, and you probably will not remember your treatment. With both IV and oral conscious sedation, our dental staff will carefully monitor your vital signs to ensure your safety during treatment.
Of course, with all implant procedures, you will be given local anesthetic. Sedation is simply intended to address the psychological aspects of oral surgery.
